Flowers on Valentine’s Day

In addition to a gift, flowers on Valentine’s Day are always a good idea. You can’t go wrong with roses, the classic of classic floral gifts. Just make sure beforehand that you know what the various colours symbolise. While white roses have a mystic touch, and represent innocence and purity; pink roses stand for tenderness and poetic romance. A single rose expresses the innermost feelings of the heart, while a rose bouquet conveys deep emotions and a sense of connection.

If you prefer something a little more contemporary, opt for seasonal flowers instead. Buttercups are cut flowers that already bloom in February and look great in combination with baby’s breath. Tulips, too, are suitable for this kind of bouquet.

Decorative wooden letters spelling LOVE, YOU & ME or the first letters of your first names are charming without being kitschy. LED light boxes are another great way to leave short love messages. Let your imagination run wild, the play of lights will ensure that your message gets the desired attention.

Recipe for homemade macarons

Offer your partner a romantic treat on Valentine’s Day: homemade macarons. Of course, we want your evening to be a success, and we also want you to have fun making the cookies. For this reason, we have chosen an easy-to-do macaron recipe that is also suitable for beginners.

For 40 macarons, you need:

  • 85 g ground almonds
  • 42 grams icing sugar and 50 g sugar
  • 2 large egg whites
  • red food colouring
  • seedless raspberry jam

You need the following equipment: a piping bag or syringe, a mixer or food processor and a fine sifter.

Blend the ground almonds and the icing sugar briefly with a food processor. Beat the egg whites with a handheld mixer until foamy, gradually add the sugar. Add a little food colouring and ensure that the egg froth is nice and stiff. Carefully stir in the icing sugar and mix with a spatula. Transfer the mixture to the piping bag. Pipe the batter on the parchment-lined baking sheets in circles - these will become the macaron shells. Let it rest for approximately 30 minutes before baking for 12 minutes in an oven preheated to 145°C. Let the shells cool off after baking before turning them and letting the other side cool off too.

Spread half a teaspoon of raspberry jam between two shells and sandwich them together. Et voilà - your homemade macarons are ready.

We hope you have fun surprising and gifting your loved one and wish you a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
