Repulse Bay

Despite being a hotspot for million dollar homes for sale, sun-drenched Repulse Bay has a relaxed resort-like feel to it. Its wide, wave-lapped beach is popular with both locals and visitors and is great for strolls in the early morning, daytime sun soaking when the bathers are out in force, or lingering at sunset when all has turned mellow.

This crescent-shaped stretch of sand is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong. It is also home to the Hong Kong Life Saving Society clubhouse, which is built in traditional Chinese style, with a ceiling decorated with magnificent swirling dragons. Towering twin statues of the deities Kwun Yam and Tin Hau dominate the picturesque gardens that lead down to the beach.

The nearby colonial-style building, The Repulse Bay houses designer shops and award-winning restaurants and resembles the luxury hotel built in 1920 that originally occupied the site. Most of its grounds were redeveloped into luxury apartments more than 20 years ago, and only the original arcade remains.

The Pulse, shopping malls

The Pulse is a major shopping mall in Repulse Bay. There are several floors of shops, which is fun if you feel like taking your coffee for a walk. You’ll find loads of children’s stores with plenty of toys, books, beautiful imported clothing brands and even a magician’s corner just next to Seed Heritage. A few random stores are also dotted about the place, including a Tesla car showroom and an Airplay blow-dry and nail bar (Shop 201H). Skin Laundry is a cute, new mini-spa that has also opened its doors in Lane Crawford and IFC.

Gym and Deepwater Bay nearby

Aside from the gym option as Pure South, there is this nice walk that follows the shore from Repulse Bay around to Deep Water Bay to the west. It takes roughly 20 minutes and is a great way for the kids to burn off some excess energy – which is probably a very good idea before a long lunch! The beach itself is never really overcrowded and, with the weather on your side, it can be a surprisingly pleasant way to spend part of the day.

Transport

It takes 3 mins to Repulse Bay Beach and Deep Water Bay. It is very close to the school network and the distance varies from 3 mins to HKIS Primary, 8 mins to HKIS Middle/High School, 3 mins to Woodlands Montessori (Repulse Bay), 3 mins to PIPs Preschool and 8 mins to French International School.
