Neighbourhoods with Rooftop Bars on Hong Kong Island
Hong Kong is the city for rooftop bars. No matter your tipple, beer, wine, cocktails, you can get high, with incredible views of our very beautiful city in a number of fantastic neighbourhoods.
Central Rooftop Bars
Everyone wants to live here, in the inner central districts of Soho, Noho, and Sheung Wan. Bustling, energy, urban living at its best, mostly singles and young couples, convenient to everything and everyone. With a zillion dining and drinking options, Hong Kong is the city that doesn’t sleep! There are many rooftop bars and the good part is you can walk between most of them to find your best spot.
Savva - This rooftop bar has been the quintessential go-to place for many years to bring your overseas guests. From here you can take in the most spectacular mix of views of the harbour and the incredible light shows with the HSBC building and the Bank of China right in close view. Magical neon lights everywhere.
The Murray Hotel - Poppinjays - New, ultra-slick and sophisticated, this rooftop bar at the top of the Hotel gives a very different yet super amazing view of Hong Kong skyscrapers and the city. Poppinjays has a great crowd and music, and is only a taxi ride away unless you work in Citi tower. Follow the walkways and be impressed with the décor of the hotel on the way up in the lifts.
Les Ramblas and Sea Market IFC - Shop until you drop then relax with the outstanding views of Victoria harbour, Kowloon, and TST. Side by side with quite different aesthetics, both offer the same fantastic view. This rooftop bar has an excellent happy hour between 4 and 7 if you are lucky enough to find a table outside.
Ichu Terraza - All guests here are very nice and well behaved. This new rooftop bar is best if you like to take your cocktail and sit down. Not the place to stand around the bar and mingle, but a great place to go if you have your own crowd.
Spiga - Located above GAP on Queens Road, the rooftop draws an interesting mix of people, very much the office crowd, mostly seated with unusual high table cabanas, and empties out after 8 pm. Go earlier if you want a table or go later to have the place more to yourself.
Piqniq - New Hang in the H building on Queens Road.
Causeway Bay and Wan Chai Rooftop Bars
A very lively area where you would expect to find a number of good rooftop bars. To live in the quieter parts of Causeway Bay can be very satisfying, and you will get a little more space for quite a few less dollars. On the MTR line, or only a 15-to-20-minute walk to Central, like Central, you have a wealth of shopping on your doorstep, from luxury to local designers, cute retail shops, gigantic malls and department stores. It gets very busy on weekends but there is no need for a car to live here. It is well worth joining the Hong Kong Yacht Club at Causeway Bay to take advantage of the excellent resort facilities if your apartment building doesn’t offer these. For those who like weekend sports you are bang on with football, tennis, basketball courts and stadiums.
Wooloomooloo Steakhouse - Probably has one of the best views in Hong Kong. It has nice music and is not overly flashy so you can rock up here in casual gear. However, the restaurant is another story, it is quite expensive so you would want to put something nice on to dine here. In fine weather, you can see from the harbour right around to the racecourse and the hills above. Excellent and well worth a visit.
SKYE Rooftop - Located at the top of the Pullman Hotel in CWB. This is a large restaurant which opens out onto a slick outdoor terrace with chairs surrounding a central bar. Filled with good drinks and stunning views that leave you feeling like you are in a spaceship. The dress code is casual to smart. This bar offers bespoke cocktails however you want them.
Shelter - Italian Bar and Restaurant - Located at the 7th floor of the Hysan Place shopping centre, right next to the Causeway Bay metro station, Shelter Italian Bar & Restaurant is everything but the standard "shopping mall restaurant". Instead, this is a lovely al fresco restaurant and bar with a large garden-like terrace, complete with vegetables, herbs and fruits trees growing. With a friendly and casual vibe, a stylish dining area, bar seats and a set of cosy swinging pods, this is a great rooftop to hang out day or night.
Club@28 - The best thing about this chic rooftop poolside bar might be the very cool views over Happy Valley racing track. Part stylish inside lounge and part open terrace right next to the rooftop pool, Club@ 28 is one of the lesser-known rooftop bars in Hong Kong. So usually, you can get the best seat in a relaxed atmosphere without overcrowding and perfectly enjoy some relaxing drinks in this chilled-out atmosphere. Club@28 also features a great rooftop pool, available to guests staying at the Crowne Plaza Causeway Bay.
Quarry Bay Rooftop Bars
Quarry Bay has quickly become a hotspot over the last few years with expats. The area sees a combination of west and east, attracting an international mix of residents and visitors. With a dynamic range of restaurants and bars, large blocks of commercial space and being home to an abundance of pop-up shops, this has become a hub of creativity for agencies and designers who not only work in the area but who have decided to set up home in the neighbourhood. You will get a lot more space in this area and pay less. It is conveniently on the blue MTR line, only a few stops to Central.
Sugar - A stylish and classic rooftop bar, open nightly and perfect for sunset views and unwinding drinks. Located at hotel East HK, at Tai Koo, this stylish terrace offers different and absolutely magical views over Kowloon Bay and the full stretch of the Kowloon skyline. Furnished with lounge sofas and bar stools by the edge, you can enjoy international tapas, great cocktails and soft lounge vibes with a resident DJ.
